SUMMARY:the Odyssey collection - a journey through collaboration and creation
DESCRIPTION:Fabrica Design Platform (FDP) is proud to present the Odyssey Collection\, a collaborative project that provided an opportunity for FDP ceramicist members and renowned artist Charles Khoury to merge their artistic practices in a unique exploration of form and expression. Rooted in experimentation\, this collection embodies the spirit of artistic discovery and the profound dialogue between ceramics and artistic composition. \nThe journey of the Odyssey Collection began with an open-ended brainstorming session\, where ideas flowed freely\, and the foundations of the project were laid. Charles Khoury introduced the first step in the creative process by crafting intricate paper patrons\, which served as the guiding templates for the sculptures. FDP ceramicists then employed the slab technique to bring these forms to life\, translating two-dimensional patterns into three-dimensional ceramic structures. \nEach piece underwent a meticulous process\, including firing\, glazing\, and the incorporation of mixed media to enhance the sculptures’ depth and character. Charles contributed his artistic touch by shaping certain forms\, while for the wall art pieces\, he painted directly onto glazed ceramic surfaces. These pieces were then subjected to a third firing\, fusing his work with the ceramic medium in a permanent dialogue of texture and color. \nThe name Odyssey was chosen to reflect the profound artistic voyage undertaken by all involved. Step by step\, the artists navigated the technical challenges and creative breakthroughs that defined the collection. What began in June 2024 as an ambitious project was set to be unveiled in the fall of the same year. However\, due to the war situation in Lebanon\, the project was put on hold\, leaving its completion uncertain for a time. \nDespite these challenges\, we are proud to say that we endured\, adapted\, and emerged stronger. The Odyssey Collection stands as a testament to resilience\, artistic perseverance\, and the power of collaboration in the face of adversity. Today\, we are thrilled to finally share the fruits of our labor with you. This exhibition is not just a display of ceramic art—it is a story of endurance\, transformation\, and creative synergy. \nWe invite you to experience the Odyssey Collection\, to witness the dialogue between ceramics and artistic expression\, and to embark on this journey with us. Experience this spirited collaboration with us with the making of that will be featured along the staircase\, with the final collection on the third floor and rooftop!
